HINTERLAND

Hinterland is a brand new collaboration between London based percussionist Bernhard Schimpelsberger and Austrian flautist Georg Gratzer.
In a unique combination of their individual styles they create landscapes of sound drawing from a unique palette of colors and textures. Embracing sonic influences from Indian classical music, Scandinavian jazz, Chinese folk or their Western classical roots such as Bach and Mozart.

British Austrian master drummer Bernhard Schimpelsberger is a single phenomenon in the world of percussion today. He performs with 'substance, excitement and rigour' (The Independent) and ‘plays the drumkit in a style true to that of a tabla virtuoso’ (Pulse Mag.) He tours the globe with his band Circle of Sound with Soumik Datta, Anoushka Shankar, Nitin Sawhney, dancer Akram Khan, Talvin Singh, and Susheela Raman.

Georg Gratzer is a multi instrumentalist, a well versed flautist - simply put a maverick of sound. His travels all around the world have led him deep into new musical collaborations, constantly pushing to expand his own musical horizon. Inspired by countless journeys to India, China and South America Gratzer extended his range of instruments with numerous native instruments such as the Chinese Dizi & HuLuSi, the Indian Bansuri or the Peruvian Zampoña. At the same time he became acquainted with different types of traditional folk music and integrated them into his world of music.
